Lexus is preparing to introduce the next-generation Lexus ES in India, bringing a host of major upgrades over its predecessor. The model, which made its global debut in April 2025, is now in its eighth generation and is expected to arrive in the Indian market as a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) unit. Built on the updated TNGA-K platform, the new ES will strengthen Lexus’ premium sedan lineup alongside models like the NX, RX, and LM MPV.
Design and Exterior Updates
The 2026 Lexus ES showcases a significantly evolved design language, moving towards a more modern and sharper aesthetic. The front fascia stands out with sleek Z-shaped LED daytime running lights that are neatly integrated with turn indicators. Unlike traditional designs, the main headlamps are positioned behind vertically stacked gloss black elements, giving the car a futuristic appearance.
Another major change is the removal of the conventional spindle grille. Instead, Lexus has opted for a minimalist air intake at the lower bumper, featuring a distinctive diamond-pattern design. From the side, the sedan gets a prominent character line running across the body, complemented by gloss black accents and newly styled alloy wheels that enhance its sporty appeal.
At the rear, the ES features a full-width LED light bar with illuminated “LEXUS” branding, paired with L-shaped chrome highlights that add a premium touch. Overall, the design reflects a blend of elegance and sportiness, aligning with global luxury sedan trends.
Interior and Features
Inside, the cabin of the new ES focuses on minimalism and advanced technology. The highlight is a large 14-inch infotainment touchscreen that serves as the control hub for most vehicle functions. The dashboard layout is clean and driver-centric, complemented by a three-spoke steering wheel featuring the Lexus emblem.
The sedan is expected to come loaded with premium features, including Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), powered front seats with memory function, and reclining rear seats for enhanced comfort. A “boss mode” is also likely to be offered, allowing rear-seat occupants to adjust the front passenger seat for maximum legroom. These additions make the ES a strong contender in the executive luxury sedan segment.
Hybrid Powertrain and Performance
Under the hood, the India-spec ES is expected to feature a hybrid powertrain, in line with Lexus’ electrification strategy. The likely option is the ES 300h setup, which combines a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor. This system produces a combined output of around 215 hp and 221 Nm of torque.
Power is delivered to the front wheels via an e-CVT transmission, ensuring smooth and efficient performance. The hybrid system not only enhances fuel efficiency—rated at approximately 22.37 km/l—but also delivers a refined driving experience. The sedan can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 8.9 seconds, making it both efficient and adequately quick for its segment.
Expected Price and Rivals
In India, the new Lexus ES is expected to be priced at around Rs 70 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it in direct competition with models like the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. With its hybrid technology, premium features, and refreshed design, the ES aims to attract buyers looking for a balance between luxury and efficiency.
