Bugatti EB110 Hyper Car: It’s truly an astonishing story — one straight out of an old movie. An engineering masterpiece gathering dust and then regaining its glory is nothing short of miraculous. The fate of the iconic 1991 hypercar, the Bugatti EB 110, changed when the royal family of Kuwait purchased it in 2005. Sadly, instead of driving it, they parked it in a corner of a garage. For the next 17 years, this priceless car sat there gathering dust. When it was finally retrieved in 2023, it was in terrible condition, with its engine completely jammed and many vital components corroded by time.

The amazing turnaround came when experts from Luxembourg took on the task of restoring it. This was not a simple repair but a rigorous restoration process. Specialists dismantled each part of the car and restored it to its original specifications. After painstaking and meticulous work, the car now looks and drives just as it did when it was launched in the 1990s.

You might not believe it, but this car was purchased by the royal family for approximately ₹3 crore (around $3 million). Today, however, its value has skyrocketed. Experts estimate that the car is now ready to hit the road and could fetch more than ₹25 crore (around $25 million) at auction or private sale.

The Bugatti EB110 was launched on September 15, 1991, in Versailles and Paris. The date was special because it marked the 110th birth anniversary of the company’s founder, Ettore Bugatti. After decades of dormancy, Italian entrepreneur Romano Artioli revived the brand and introduced this car. It was one of the most high-tech vehicles of its time and helped put Bugatti back on the global automotive map.

Engine and Power

This supercar featured a 3.5-liter, 60-valve V12 engine that delivered blistering performance. Its most notable feature was the use of four turbochargers — a remarkable achievement for its era. The engine produced approximately 550 to 600 horsepower. Combined with an all-wheel-drive system, it offered exceptional grip and speed.

Astonishing Speed

Even in 1991, the EB110’s performance was breathtaking. The car could accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.26 seconds. Its top speed reached 343 km/h (213 mph). These figures placed it among the world’s fastest production cars, putting it in direct competition with rivals like Ferrari.

Design

The EB110 was initiated by Marcello Gandini and later completed by Gianpaolo Gandini. One of its most advanced elements was the carbon-fiber monocoque chassis, built by aerospace company Aérospatiale. The car featured upward-opening scissor doors and an active rear spoiler that automatically deployed for high-speed stability.

The Legacy

The Bugatti EB110 is an extremely rare car, with only 139 units ever produced. Its popularity is evident from the fact that legendary racing driver Michael Schumacher owned a yellow EB110 SS. Although the company was forced to shut down in 1995 due to financial difficulties, the EB110 laid the groundwork for future Bugatti icons like the Bugatti Veyron and Bugatti Chiron.
