BYD Unveils Blade Battery 2.0 That Charges to 97% in Just 9 Minutes

BYD introduces Blade Battery 2.0 with ultra-fast charging, reaching 97% in 9 minutes and delivering over 1,000 km range on the CLTC cycle.

BYD Introduces Ultra-Fast Charging Blade Battery 2.0

BYD has unveiled its next-generation Blade Battery 2.0, a new EV battery technology capable of charging to 97% in just nine minutes. The announcement is part of the company’s strategy to maintain its strong position in the rapidly growing global electric vehicle market.

The battery is designed to deliver more than 1,000 km of driving range on the CLTC testing cycle, pushing the limits of EV efficiency and charging speed.

Ultra-Fast Charging Technology

One of the main breakthroughs of Blade Battery 2.0 is its extremely fast charging capability.

According to BYD:

  • 10% to 70% charge in just 5 minutes

  • 10% to 97% charge in around 9 minutes

Even in extreme cold conditions down to −30°C, the battery can recharge from 20% to 97% in about 12 minutes after being exposed to low temperatures for a full day.

Under standard conditions, BYD says EVs equipped with this battery charge 30–50% faster than current models.

Safety and Battery Protection

Safety remains a key focus of the Blade Battery platform. The new battery successfully passed puncture and impact tests, demonstrating strong resistance to physical damage.

Wang Chuanfu, CEO of BYD, explained that the 97% charging limit is intentional. The remaining 3% capacity is reserved for regenerative braking, allowing the vehicle to recover energy more efficiently during deceleration.

Advanced High-Voltage Architecture

The new battery system is part of an upgraded EV architecture that combines:

  • A 150-kilowatt battery system

  • A high-voltage electrical platform

  • An improved thermal management system

BYD says this combination helps overcome what engineers often call the “impossible triangle” of electric vehicles — balancing long range, strong performance, and ultra-fast charging.

First Vehicle to Use the Battery

The first production model to feature Blade Battery 2.0 will be the flagship Yangwang U7 sedan from Yangwang, a luxury sub-brand of BYD.

The electric sedan is expected to offer:

  • 1,006 km range (CLTC)

  • Four-motor electric powertrain

  • High-performance EV architecture
