Tesla has designed its Cybercab production line to manufacture hundreds of the self-driving vehicles per week once mass production is underway. The company is preparing to launch large-scale robotaxi production at its Gigafactory Texas plant in Austin.
The details were reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the matter. According to those sources, Tesla is expanding its workforce and purchasing new equipment to begin mass production of the Cybercab in April 2025.
The Cybercab is a fully autonomous two-seater vehicle with no steering wheel or pedals, expected to serve primarily as part of Tesla’s planned robotaxi network.
“There’s no backup mechanism here. This car either drives itself or it doesn’t,” Musk said.
The Cybercab is central to Tesla’s planned autonomous ride-hailing service. The company has stated the vehicle could cost less than $30,000, making it one of Tesla’s most affordable models if mass production targets are met.
Musk has said Tesla could eventually produce millions of Cybercabs per year, provided demand and production capacity scale as planned.
