Lucid Unveils Lunar Robotaxi Concept with Fully Autonomous Design
American EV manufacturer Lucid Motors has revealed a futuristic robotaxi concept called the Lucid Lunar robotaxi. The concept vehicle is designed as a fully autonomous two-seater and notably features no steering wheel or pedals, highlighting the company’s long-term vision for driverless mobility.
The Lunar concept is built on the platform that will underpin Lucid’s upcoming midsize electric vehicles, although the robotaxi itself remains a concept for now.
Launch Planned After Midsize EV Lineup
According to Marc Winterhoff, interim CEO of Lucid Motors, the Lunar robotaxi is expected to arrive after the company launches its upcoming midsize EV models.
Lucid is also reportedly in discussions with Uber to develop robotaxis based on the same midsize EV platform. The goal is to eventually deploy autonomous vehicles in ride-hailing fleets.
Autonomous Gravity SUV for Uber Network
In addition to the Lunar concept, Lucid confirmed that it is collaborating with robotics company Nuro to build an autonomous version of the Lucid Gravity SUV.
The companies plan to deploy these self-driving vehicles in San Francisco as part of Uber’s ride-hailing network by the end of the year.
DreamDrive Pro Subscription for Autonomous Features
Lucid also introduced a paid subscription model for its advanced driver assistance and autonomous technology called DreamDrive Pro.
