In February, Tesla’s Robotaxi cars were almost completely free of accidents. However, it turns out that the service currently has only one fully autonomous vehicle in operation.
Tesla has once again released its monthly report on incidents involving its self-driving taxi service, Robotaxi. According to the latest data, there was just one accident recorded last month.
This marks a significant improvement compared to the previous month, when five incidents were reported. However, analyzing Tesla’s data remains challenging due to limited transparency. For instance, the company does not disclose how many miles its vehicles travel each month, which can heavily influence accident statistics. It is also unclear how many cars are actively used in the service.
Independent analysis suggests that around 35 vehicles are currently operating in Austin, where the Robotaxi service is being tested. Notably, only one of these cars is running without a safety driver.
This raises concerns about the true safety performance of the system, as safety drivers may intervene to prevent potential accidents—incidents that may not be reflected in official reports.
In any case, only one accident was recorded in February. The incident reportedly occurred at a speed of approximately 15 km/h, when the vehicle collided with a stationary object.
