Mercedes-Benz has introduced a new luxury electric car with a claimed range of 792 km that can be charged in just 40 minutes.
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the new Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric in India. This is the company’s modern electric sedan, offering a long driving range and fast-charging capability. Pre-bookings for the car will begin on March 10, 2026, and the official launch is scheduled for April. Pricing has not yet been announced, but it is expected to be between ₹55 lakh and ₹60 lakh (ex-showroom).
Battery and performance
The new CLA Electric is built on Mercedes-Benz’s MMA platform. It will be offered in five colors: Polar White, Cosmic Black, Alpine Grey, Clear Blue, and Patagonia Red. The car uses an 800-volt electrical architecture.
It packs a large 85 kWh battery paired with a rear-mounted electric motor that produces 268 bhp. According to the company, the sedan can travel up to 792 km on a single full charge. It features a 2-speed transmission and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds.
The car supports 240 kW DC fast charging, and the company claims it can add up to 400 km of range in just 20 minutes.
Size and design
In terms of dimensions, the car measures 4,723 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width, and 1,468 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,790 mm that ensures ample cabin space. It also offers a 405-litre boot and a 101-litre front frunk.
Design highlights include a closed front grille with 142 small illuminated stars, giving it a distinctive identity. Other features include star-shaped LED DRLs, twin-pod headlamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, flush door handles, and connected LED tail-lamps.
Packed with advanced features
In India, the car will be available in the 250+ variant. It gets a large 14-inch touchscreen running the new MB.OS system, along with a 10.25-inch digital driver display.
Other features include six 100W USB-C fast-charging ports, wireless charging, OTA updates, a panoramic sunroof, and dual-zone climate control. For safety, the sedan is equipped with camera- and radar-based Level 2 ADAS.
