Cox Automotive has recycled over 10 million pounds of EV battery “black mass” through its EV Battery Solutions business, recovering key minerals like lithium, nickel, cobalt, and manganese for reuse in new battery production. The milestone comes as EVs increasingly enter the secondary market — rising from 5% of lease maturities in 2025 to an expected 23% by 2028. The company’s Oklahoma City facility uses a dry processing system that recovers up to 94% of battery materials with minimal environmental impact. Cox says recycling is part of a broader strategy that includes battery refurbishment and remanufacturing, reflecting a growing focus on full EV battery lifecycle management.
