Buick’s Electric Minivan Accelerates to 0–100 km/h in Just 5.1 Seconds
American automaker Buick has unveiled its new premium electric minivan, the Buick GL8 Encasa, in China. Designed for the high-end segment, the model offers a spacious seven-seat layout and positions itself as an alternative to traditional executive cars.
Developed with SAIC-GM Joint Venture
The GL8 Encasa has been developed under the SAIC-GM partnership. The minivan measures 5260 mm in length, 2023 mm in width, and 1820 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3160 mm. These dimensions make it larger than many rivals in its segment, ensuring ample cabin space.

Powerful Dual-Motor Setup
The electric minivan comes equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, producing a combined output of 646 horsepower and 550 Nm of torque. Despite being a large MPV, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.1 seconds, which is impressive for a vehicle of this size.
Long Range and Ultra-Fast Charging
The GL8 Encasa is powered by a 96 kWh battery pack, offering a driving range of up to 601 km on the CLTC cycle. It also features a 900-volt electrical architecture, supporting ultra-fast charging speeds of up to 640 kW. This allows the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 11 minutes.
Tech-Loaded Premium Cabin
Inside, the minivan offers a highly advanced and luxurious cabin. It features seven screens, including a massive 50-inch augmented reality display. The audio system is supplied by Bose, delivering a premium sound experience.
The vehicle also comes with advanced driver assistance systems powered by Momenta R6 technology, enhancing safety and driving convenience.
Price and Positioning
The Buick GL8 Encasa is priced at 489,900 yuan (approximately $71,000). With its strong performance, long range, and cutting-edge features, it is positioned as a premium electric MPV in the Chinese market.
