Tesla Unveils $30 Cybercab Clockwork Racer Toy as Driverless Robotaxi Nears Production

Tesla launches a $30 metal wind-up Cybercab Clockwork Racer toy in China while real Cybercab robotaxi prototypes undergo testing ahead of a planned sub-$30,000 launch by 2026.

Tesla has introduced the Cybercab Clockwork Racer, a 1:43-scale wind-up toy modeled after its upcoming autonomous robotaxi. The miniature vehicle is made from die-cast metal with a matte gold finish and is already available for purchase in China at a price of about $30.

Designed in the style of classic mechanical toys, the model operates without batteries. It is powered by a traditional winding mechanism and built for durability, allowing repeated use without significant wear.

The toy measures 106 × 45 × 46 mm and weighs 140 grams. Its body is constructed from zinc alloy, while the wheels are made of ABS plastic with rubber tires to improve traction and realism.

At the same time, development of the full-size Cybercab continues. Several prototypes have been spotted at Tesla’s Giga Texas facility without steering wheels or side mirrors, suggesting that the vehicles are being prepared for crash testing and regulatory evaluation.

Tesla also confirmed that the first production Cybercab unit has rolled off the assembly line. The company aims to begin commercial sales before the end of 2026, with a target starting price of under $30,000. The vehicle is expected to operate as a fully autonomous robotaxi, marking a major step in Tesla’s long-term self-driving strategy.
