Volga K50 Production Starts at Former Volkswagen Plant
Production of the new Volga K50 crossover has officially begun at a former Volkswagen plant in Nizhny Novgorod. This marks the return of the Volga brand with a modern, high-tech SUV aimed at competing in the premium segment.
The new model closely resembles the Geely Monjaro in terms of design, but the company has outlined several key differences.
Key Differences Between Volga K50 and Geely Monjaro
According to Volga CEO Tatyana Fadeeva, the K50 will gradually evolve into a more distinct product:
- Redesigned exterior and interior styling
- Improved second-row comfort
- Updated engine and transmission combinations
- Unique engineering solutions in future versions
While the initial model may share similarities, upcoming iterations will feature stronger brand identity and customization.
Localization of Components from Day One
One of the major highlights of the Volga K50 is its focus on localization. From the start of production, several components are being sourced locally:
- Tyres and wheels
- Glass and batteries
- Telematics services and multimedia systems
The company plans to expand localization further by producing more complex components domestically in the future.
Modern Features and Premium Comfort
The Volga K50 is equipped with a range of advanced features designed to enhance comfort and safety:
- 12-speaker premium sound system
- Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS)
- Ventilated front seats
- Massage and memory functions for seats
- Adjustable rear seatback angle
These features aim to deliver a premium in-cabin experience.
Production and Launch Timeline
The first Volga K50 units have already started rolling off the production line at the Nizhny Novgorod facility, which previously manufactured Skoda and Volkswagen vehicles.
- Production Start: 2026
- Expected Launch: Summer 2026
Note: The Volga K50 represents a significant step in reviving the Volga brand with modern technology and premium features. While it initially shares similarities with the Geely Monjaro, future updates and localization efforts are expected to make it a more distinct and competitive SUV.
