Bridgestone AirFree Tyres: Japanese tyre manufacturer Bridgestone has introduced a tyre that could transform mobility. The company has unveiled the third-generation model of its airless tyre. This tyre neither requires air nor carries any risk of punctures.
If a tyre gets punctured while driving, the first thought that comes to mind is, “It’s a bad day.” The air escapes, the car stops, and the journey is interrupted. But now, a new technology in the tyre world could make this hassle a thing of the past. Japan’s renowned tyre company, Bridgestone, has introduced a tyre that doesn’t require air at all. That means no more worrying about air pressure, no fear of punctures, and no need to stop midway through your journey.
Bridgestone has unveiled the third generation of its AirFree tyre. This new airless tyre brings several significant improvements over its predecessor, making it even more practical. The company has moved the technology from the concept stage to a real-world, production-ready level and is gradually working toward its social implementation. Airless tyres, once considered the tyres of the future, may soon be seen on road vehicles.

Bridgestone’s third-generation AirFree tyre uses advanced simulation technology and features a structure made from strong yet flexible materials. According to the company, this allows the AirFree tyre to deliver improved performance across varying weather and road conditions. The aim is to make the tyre more reliable and long-lasting.
AI-Based Dynamic Structure
Another standout feature of this tyre is its dynamic structural design. Going beyond the second generation’s focus on ride comfort, the new model uses an artificial intelligence (AI)-based automated learning system. This system can automatically adapt the tyre’s shape and load response to different conditions, enabling easier use across a wide variety of vehicles.
Blue Spokes Enhance Safety
The company has incorporated a Blue Spoke–style structure in these tyres. In simple terms, the tyres feature blue spokes that remain clearly visible in low light and at dusk, helping improve safety in local mobility environments. These spokes are made from recycled thermoplastic resin, which replaces the need for air while easily supporting the vehicle’s full weight. Bridgestone also claims that this structure helps reduce road shock.
Demo testing of these tyres began in Kodaira City, Tokyo, Japan, in March 2024 and is still ongoing. The trials aim to evaluate their usefulness as a green slow-mobility solution. However, regular passenger car users may need to wait a bit longer. Currently, Bridgestone is testing these air-free tyres on commercial trucks and ultra-compact electric vehicles, where maintenance demands are higher and the benefits of this technology are especially significant.
