Russians Are Switching to Hybrids: PHEV Fleet Surpasses 100,000 Vehicles
The plug-in hybrid vehicle market in Russia is growing rapidly. By the beginning of 2026, around 112,600 plug-in hybrids (PHEV and EREV) were registered in the country, according to Sergey Tselikov, head of Avtostat.
Over the past year, the PHEV fleet expanded by more than 50,000 units. This growth was driven not only by new vehicle sales (44,800 units) but also by the active import of used cars.
Lixiang Emerges as Market Leader
China’s Li Auto (Lixiang) became the most popular brand, with more than 43,000 vehicles in circulation — despite official deliveries starting only in late 2025.
It was followed by Voyah with over 22,000 units and BMW with nearly 7,000 vehicles.
Notably, Voyah’s serial hybrids are also assembled locally in Russia at the Motor-Invest plant, supporting domestic availability.
