Suzuki e-Vitara Gets 4-Star ANCAP Rating: Here’s Why It Missed 5 Stars

Suzuki’s first electric SUV, the Suzuki e Vitara, has delivered an impressive performance in global safety tests, earning a 4-star rating from ANCAP.

While the SUV showcases strong build quality, advanced safety features, and modern technology, it narrowly missed out on a 5-star rating due to a few key shortcomings.

ANCAP Crash Test Scores

According to ANCAP, the e-Vitara achieved:

  • Adult Occupant Protection: 77% (31/40 points)
  • Child Occupant Protection: 87% (43/49 points)
  • Vulnerable Road User Protection: 79% (50.34/63 points)
  • Safety Assist: 71% (12.78/18 points)

This rating applies to all variants from March 2026 to December 2031.

Why It Missed 5-Star Rating

Despite strong overall performance, a few factors impacted the final score:

  • Lack of a center airbag
  • Weak protection for the driver’s chest in frontal crash
  • Marginal protection for rear passenger head

These limitations prevented the SUV from achieving a full 5-star safety rating.

Safety Features & ADAS

The Suzuki e Vitara comes loaded with advanced safety tech, including:

  • Dual front, side & curtain airbags
  • Driver knee airbag
  • ABS with EBD & Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
  • ISOFIX child seat mounts
  • Level-2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System)

Key ADAS Features:

  • Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • High Beam Assist

These features significantly improve crash prevention and driver safety.

Design, Battery & Performance

Built on the HEARTECT-e platform, the SUV offers:

  • Length: 4275 mm
  • Wheelbase: 2700 mm

Battery Options:

  • 49 kWh LFP battery
  • 61 kWh LFP battery

The larger battery variant produces 172 bhp and delivers an ARAI range of up to 543 km.

  • Fast charging: 10–80% in 45 minutes

Interior & Features

The cabin is packed with premium features:

  • 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster
  • Ventilated seats
  • 360-degree camera
  • Sunroof
  • Flexible rear seats
  • 310-liter boot space

India vs Global Safety Rating

Interestingly, the Suzuki e Vitara has already received a 5-star rating from BNCAP in India.

This shows that while the SUV meets high domestic safety standards, stricter global criteria from ANCAP impacted its rating.

Launch Timeline

The electric SUV is expected to launch in Australia by June 2026, further strengthening Suzuki’s presence in the global EV market.
