According to Avtostat, a total of 3,361 new Volkswagen passenger cars were registered in Russia between January and March 2026. This marks a 4.5-fold increase compared to the same period in 2025, when 743 units were registered. The data was shared by Sergey Tselikov, head of the analytical agency.
The most popular model during this period was the Volkswagen Tiguan crossover, with 1,108 units sold, accounting for nearly one-third of total registrations.
The 2025/2026 Tiguan comes equipped with the advanced IQ.DRIVE package (Level 2), which is standard across all variants. Key features include Travel Assist (semi-autonomous driving with adaptive cruise control Stop&Go, lane centering, and lane change assist), Front Assist with automatic emergency braking (AEB) and pedestrian/cyclist detection, Lane Assist (lane-keeping system), blind spot monitoring with Rear Traffic Alert, Emergency Assist (which can stop the vehicle if the driver becomes unresponsive), and Light Assist (adaptive high beams). It also includes a fatigue monitoring system and a surround-view camera in higher trims.
Other popular models in the top five include the Volkswagen Tharu (775 units), Volkswagen Teramont (580 units), Volkswagen Tavendor, and Volkswagen Talagon (185 units).
Additionally, 168 units of the large five-seat Volkswagen Teramont X were registered during the quarter, despite the model not being officially supplied to Russia last year.
All new Volkswagen vehicles are entering Russia through alternative import channels, with approximately 95% of these cars being manufactured in China.
