In the first three months of 2026, a total of 19,400 used passenger cars (over three years old) were imported from China to Russia. This marks a significant increase of nearly 2.5 times (+145%) compared to the same period last year.
According to Sergey Tselikov, head of Avtostat, large-scale imports of used cars from China only began in 2023. Prior to that, import volumes were in single digits.
Volkswagen Leads Used Car Imports
Volkswagen emerged as the leading brand in used car imports from China in Q1 2026. Over the three-month period, 5,093 used Volkswagen cars were imported, nearly eight times more than in the same period last year.
The most popular Volkswagen models included the Volkswagen Tayron (1,163 units), Volkswagen Tharu (851 units), Volkswagen Golf (755 units), and Volkswagen T-Roc (572 units).
Top Brands in Imports
Audi ranked second with 2,426 units, followed by Toyota (2,089 units), Honda (1,552 units), and BMW (1,371 units), completing the top five.
Top Model Ranking
In the model-wise rankings, the Toyota Corolla secured the top position among used car imports from China, with 1,489 units.
Earlier, Rossiyskaya Gazeta (RG) reported that the average car loan in Russia during the first quarter of 2026 stood at 1.19 million rubles.
