The new Lexus IS will be a fully electric car with an unusual design
Lexus is preparing a major surprise for premium sedan enthusiasts. The legendary Lexus IS is expected to return in 2027 as a fully electric model. The upcoming EV will draw heavy inspiration from the Lexus LF-ZC concept and will be significantly different from the current generation in both design and dimensions.
The new electric sedan is expected to measure 4,790 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,395 mm in height, giving it a sleeker and more futuristic stance.

Multiple Powertrain Options
Lexus is likely to offer the electric IS in multiple configurations:
-
Single electric motor with rear-wheel drive
-
Dual-motor all-wheel drive setup
The combined output of the top electric variant could reach close to 500 horsepower, positioning it strongly in the premium EV sedan segment.

Target Range of Around 1,000 km
According to available reports, Lexus aims to deliver an impressive driving range of approximately 1,000 km on a single charge. The sedan is expected to use next-generation high-performance prismatic batteries, which should improve energy density and efficiency.
If achieved, this figure would place the electric IS among the longest-range premium EV sedans globally.
Strategic Positioning
The arrival of the electric IS could help Lexus capture buyers looking for a premium electric sedan alternative, especially as competition in the segment evolves.
With bold styling, advanced battery tech, and strong performance targets, the next-generation electric IS is shaping up to be one of the brand’s most important EV launches of the decade.
