The 2026 Honda ZR-V will be launched in India only in a hybrid avatar.
Honda is preparing to bring the new Honda ZR-V to the Indian market as part of its premium strategy. This SUV will be imported to India as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) and is expected to be priced between ₹50-60 lakh.
This C-segment crossover has been updated for Japan, and is also sold as the Honda HR-V in some international markets (such as North America and China). This model is positioned below the Honda CR-V in the company’s portfolio. The updated ZR-V will be launched in Japan in March 2026.

🔧 What’s new in the 2026 Honda ZR-V?
The biggest change is that the 2026 ZR-V will now be available only with a hybrid powertrain. The previously offered 1.5-liter VTEC turbo petrol engine has been discontinued.
The new ZR-V now features a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated inline-4 petrol engine, which produces:
. Power: 141 PS
. Torque: 182 Nm
. Transmission: e-CVT
This engine operates on the Atkinson cycle and is also used in the 11th-generation Honda Civic and the new Honda Prelude. The ZR-V’s platform is also derived from the Civic.
⚡ How does the hybrid system work?
In the ZR-V’s hybrid setup, the petrol engine performs two functions: generating electricity and directly driving the wheels when needed.
. The engine produces electricity for the battery
. The battery powers a separate traction motor
. Traction motor output: 135 kW (184 PS) and 315 Nm
. In certain conditions, the engine can directly power the wheels via the e-CVT
This setup is expected to deliver improved fuel efficiency and a smoother driving experience.

🇮🇳 India Launch and Positioning
According to reports, the Honda ZR-V could be introduced in India by the end of 2026. It will not be a high-volume sales model, but will instead serve as a halo product to strengthen the brand image.
In the Indian market, it will primarily compete with premium SUVs like:
Volkswagen Tiguan
Volkswagen Tayron
The 2026 Honda ZR-V’s full-hybrid focus, premium features, and advanced tech make it a strong contender in the global market. While its high price in India may limit its sales, this model could play a significant role in increasing brand value.
