Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus LX Recalled in India Over Transmission Fault

oyota and Lexus recall 1,086 SUVs in India due to a transmission control issue that may cause engine over-revving. Check affected Land Cruiser and Lexus LX units.

Toyota Motor Corporation and Lexus India have announced a voluntary recall due to a potential defect in the transmission control system. The recall affects 969 units of the Toyota Land Cruiser and 117 units of the Lexus LX.

  • LC300 units built between September 4, 2024, and September 30, 2025, are affected

  • Lexus LX units built between March 6 and September 29, 2025, are also affected

  • Fault may cause engine over-revving and possible transmission damage

What Is the Issue?

In an official statement, the manufacturers said the recall campaign aims to reprogram the transmission control computer software, which manages transmission performance. As of February 18, no such cases have been reported in the Indian market.

The affected SUVs use a 10-speed automatic transmission that relies on linear solenoids for gear shifts. Under certain driving conditions, malfunctioning solenoids may not properly communicate between the transmission control unit and the engine ECU.

Potential Risks

Because of this fault:

  • The engine may rev excessively in certain gears

  • Transmission components could suffer damage

  • Engine power may reduce at high speeds

  • In severe cases, transmission housing damage could cause fluid leaks

Shared Platform Details

The LC300 and Lexus LX are built on the same platform and share several mechanical components, including:

  • Twin-turbo V6 diesel engine

  • 10-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox

  • Electronically controlled linear solenoid gear-shift system

This shared transmission hardware is the primary focus of the recall.

What Owners Should Do

Under the voluntary recall, authorized dealers will contact owners of affected vehicles. Customers can also reach out to their nearest authorized dealership of Toyota or Lexus for more details and to schedule the software update if their vehicle is involved.
