New Off-Road SUVs Launching in India in 2026: Key Models from MG, Mahindra and Toyota

Four new off-road SUVs are set to launch in India, including the MG Majestor, updated Mahindra Scorpio-N and Mahindra Scorpio Classic, and the next-generation Toyota Fortuner. These models will feature powerful engines, 4x4 systems, and improved off-road capabilities.

True Off-Road SUVs Are Still Rare in India

True off-road SUVs are still quite rare in the Indian automobile market. Most genuine off-road vehicles use a ladder-frame (body-on-frame) chassis, which provides greater structural strength, higher load capacity, improved towing capability, and better durability on rough terrain.

These SUVs usually come equipped with:

  • Low-range transfer case

  • Heavy-duty suspension

  • High ground clearance

  • Multiple terrain modes

  • Powerful 4×4 drivetrain systems

If you are planning to buy a true off-road capable SUV, it may be worth waiting a little longer, as several new models are expected to arrive in India this year. Here are some key upcoming off-road SUVs to watch.

Mahindra Scorpio-N and Scorpio Classic Facelift

Mahindra & Mahindra is also preparing mid-life updates for the Mahindra Scorpio-N and Mahindra Scorpio Classic.

The upcoming facelift versions are expected to feature:

  • Minor design updates

  • Additional technology and comfort features

  • Updated interior elements

However, the SUVs will retain their current engine options.

The 4WD system will be offered only with the diesel variants, and it will include three drive modes – Zip, Zap, and Zoom, allowing drivers to adjust performance based on driving conditions.

MG Majestor

The MG Majestor was recently introduced in India, although its official price announcement is expected in April 2026. Bookings for the SUV have already started, and deliveries are likely to begin in May.

This SUV is powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine paired with an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The engine produces around 215bhp and 478Nm of torque.

Key off-road highlights include:

  • On-demand 4WD system

  • 10 terrain modes

  • ‘M-Crawl’ off-road assist function

  • Water-wading capacity of up to 810mm

These features make the Majestor a strong contender for serious off-road enthusiasts.

New-Generation Toyota Fortuner

The next-generation Toyota Fortuner is expected to make its global debut by the end of 2026, with the Indian launch likely happening either simultaneously or in early 2027.

The upcoming Fortuner will be built on an updated IMV ladder-frame platform, derived from the new Toyota Hilux pickup truck.

Expected highlights include:

  • Completely updated exterior design

  • Interior technology upgrades

  • Possible ADAS safety features

For the Indian market, the SUV is likely to continue with its existing powertrains:

  • 2.7-litre petrol engine

  • 2.8-litre diesel engine

These engines are already known for their strong performance and durability, especially in demanding off-road conditions.

Although the Indian market currently offers only a limited number of true off-road SUVs, several new models are set to arrive soon. Vehicles like the MG Majestor, updated Mahindra Scorpio-N, Mahindra Scorpio Classic, and the next-generation Toyota Fortuner are expected to strengthen the segment with powerful engines, advanced 4×4 systems, and improved off-road capabilities.

For buyers who want a rugged SUV capable of handling extreme terrains, waiting for these upcoming models could be a smart decision.
