A. Revanth Reddy’s Big Announcement: College Girls in Telangana May Get Electric Scooters
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced that the state government is considering a proposal to provide electric scooters to female college students.
He made this announcement during an event held on International Women’s Day, where female journalists were also honored.
According to the Chief Minister, this plan was part of the Indian National Congress election promises. However, the proposal is still under review, and implementing it in the current financial year may be difficult.
Aim to Increase Student Mobility
The government believes that providing electric scooters to female students will improve their mobility and independence. It will also be a positive step for the environment.
Through this scheme, the government aims to achieve two main goals:
-
Increase the mobility and independence of female students
-
Promote the use of electric vehicles in the state
Plan to Phase Out Diesel Buses in Hyderabad
To promote electric mobility, the state government has also prepared a major plan involving the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC).
Under this plan, the government intends to:
-
Gradually phase out around 2,800 diesel buses operating in Hyderabad
-
Replace them with electric air-conditioned buses
The government aims to ensure that no diesel buses operate in the city by December 9, 2026.
Preparations to Convert Two Lakh Autos to Electric
The state government is also working on a new initiative for three-wheeler vehicles.
Under this scheme:
-
Around 2 lakh auto-rickshaws will be retrofitted
-
Autos currently running on diesel or other fuels will be converted into electric vehicles
This step is expected to significantly reduce pollution in the city.
Tax Exemptions to Promote Electric Vehicles
The Chief Minister also said that the government is not imposing taxes on the purchase of electric vehicles, making it easier for people to adopt clean and affordable transportation.
This move is considered important to accelerate EV adoption in the state.
Electric Vehicle Demand Growing Rapidly in India
Demand for electric vehicles in India has increased rapidly in recent years, especially in the electric scooter segment.
Some major reasons behind this growth include:
-
Low running costs
-
Less pollution
-
Government incentives
-
Rising fuel prices
Because of these factors, EV adoption is steadily increasing in major cities across the country.
This proposed scheme by the Telangana government could be a major step toward improving mobility for female students and promoting electric vehicles in the state. However, the proposal is still under review, and the final implementation timeline has not yet been announced.
