Bharat Taxi App: Drivers can become owners by paying ₹500 and can even join the board of directors.
The biggest feature of this taxi service is that drivers can become partners in the company by paying just ₹500 and may also get representation on the board.
Bharat Taxi App: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah is interacting with Bharat Taxi drivers. During the interaction, he discussed several issues with them. The main objective of this initiative is to encourage taxi drivers to earn maximum profits and become self-reliant.
Bharat Taxi will not exploit drivers
Responding to questions from drivers, Amit Shah said that Bharat Taxi will not exploit drivers the way some private companies allegedly do to maximize profits. Instead, drivers will get the opportunity to increase their earnings. The base fare will be fixed, and drivers will also have the option to become partners in the company.
He added that once drivers start earning profits, they can become partners in Bharat Taxi by paying ₹500. This cooperative model is expected to generate significant benefits for drivers. A few positions on the board of directors will also be reserved for such driver-partners.
Launched in Delhi NCR
Amit Shah recently inaugurated India’s first cooperative ride-hailing platform, Bharat Taxi. After a successful trial run in December 2025, the service has now been rolled out on a larger scale across Delhi-NCR. Until now, companies like Ola and Uber charged drivers commissions on every ride, but Bharat Taxi aims to change that model.
It follows a cooperative structure where drivers will be treated as owners rather than just partners. Each driver will receive five shares in the cooperative. To use the app, drivers will need to pay a nominal daily fee of just ₹30.
Safety arrangements
Special features have been added to ensure passenger safety, especially for women. In collaboration with Delhi Police, 35 special booths have been set up across the city to handle complaints quickly. All “Sarathi” (drivers) joining the platform will undergo full verification, and a dedicated helpline button has also been integrated into the app.
Backed by major cooperatives
Bharat Taxi is operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited and is supported by some of India’s biggest cooperative institutions such as Amul, IFFCO, NABARD, and NAFED. The backing of these established organizations significantly strengthens the platform’s credibility.
Bottom line:
Bharat Taxi aims to disrupt the ride-hailing market by turning drivers into stakeholders. If executed effectively, this cooperative model could reshape how taxi platforms operate in India.
