Fast Charging Tech: One of the Biggest Concerns for EV Buyers Is About to End
Chinese company BYD has developed a platform that can charge an electric car almost as quickly as filling up with petrol.
Highlights
-
BYD introduced 400 km range charging in just 5 minutes.
-
The system can charge EV batteries using up to 1000 kW of power.
-
Special engineering keeps the battery from overheating, ensuring safe charging.
China’s well-known car manufacturer BYD has introduced an innovative charging platform. This is welcome news for those who are hesitant to buy an electric vehicle.
Many people avoid purchasing EVs because they worry that the vehicle will take a long time to charge or that the battery might run out during a trip. BYD claims to have solved this very problem.
BYD’s Super-E Platform
The company claims that this technology can provide a driving range of up to 400 km with just five minutes of charging.
If this proves true, charging an electric car could take almost the same amount of time as filling up with petrol or diesel. This would eliminate the need to wait hours for the battery to recharge.
BYD’s Exclusive Technology
The company’s new system uses an extremely high level of electrical power, allowing it to charge a car in a very short time.
BYD’s new system supports up to 1000 kW of power and 1000 A of current. In simple terms, it is many times more powerful than standard EV chargers currently available.
Heat Control System
Charging with such high power can cause the battery to become very hot. BYD has used special engineering to manage this heat effectively.
The company has designed a unique internal battery structure that allows uninterrupted power flow. This reduces resistance within the battery, helping keep it safe and cool during charging.
What Are the Benefits of This Technology?
The biggest advantage of BYD’s new technology is that the battery can charge much faster while also preventing overheating.
Currently, some of the best electric cars on the market support charging speeds of around 350 kW. However, BYD’s new system can deliver up to 1000 kW of charging power, which is significantly higher than most existing systems, including those used by Tesla.
