“Tesla AI5 will exceed all expectations,” said Elon Musk while praising the company’s upcoming system-on-chip (SoC), which is expected to power both Optimus and Robotaxi.
According to Musk, Tesla’s AI5 chip is designed to deliver exceptional performance благодаря tight integration between hardware and software.
“The Tesla AI5 will exceed all expectations, as the entire Tesla AI software stack is built to maximize the efficiency of every circuit. We have jointly validated our AI software and hardware. It’s important to note that while AI5 can be used for training in data centers, it is primarily optimized for edge AI computing in Optimus and Robotaxi systems,” Musk explained.
He further added that the team already sees significant potential for architectural improvements. In fact, a future Tesla AI6 chip could match the performance of two AI5 SoCs.
Musk had previously shared performance expectations for AI5, claiming that a single chip could rival an Nvidia Hopper, while a dual-chip setup may compete with the latest Nvidia Blackwell platform. He also emphasized that Tesla’s solution is designed to be cost-effective and energy-efficient.
In addition, Musk revealed plans for Tesla’s massive Terafab factory, which is expected to produce up to 200 billion chips annually. The company has also begun hiring as part of this ambitious expansion.
