Google Brings Google Meet to Apple CarPlay: Join Meetings from Your Car
Google has taken a major step forward by bringing its video calling service, Google Meet, to Apple CarPlay. With this update, users can now join office meetings directly from their car dashboard. However, the company has introduced several safety restrictions to ensure minimal distraction while driving.
Your Car Is Now Your Office
Office meetings are no longer limited to desks. With this new feature, users can attend meetings while on the move, turning their car into a mobile workspace.
Recently, OpenAI introduced ChatGPT on CarPlay, and now Google has followed up by integrating Google Meet into the system. This shows how quickly cars are evolving into smart, connected workspaces.
Audio-Only Meetings for Safety
To prevent distractions while driving, Google Meet on CarPlay supports audio-only meetings. This means:
- You can join meetings with a single tap
- View upcoming meetings directly on the dashboard
- Seamlessly switch from iPhone to car interface
However, video streaming is disabled to ensure driver safety.
Limited Features for Driver Safety
Google has intentionally restricted several features on CarPlay:
- No video calls
- No “raise hand,” Q&A, or polls
- No option to create new meetings
- Hosts cannot admit or block participants
These limitations ensure that drivers remain focused on the road.
Availability & Future Plans
This feature is currently rolling out to iPhone users with CarPlay-supported vehicles. To use it:
- Install the Google Meet app on your iPhone
- Connect your phone to a CarPlay-enabled car
- Access meetings directly from the dashboard
Google is also expected to bring this feature to Android Auto soon, although no official timeline has been announced yet.
>>> With Google Meet now available on CarPlay, your car is evolving into more than just a mode of transportation—it’s becoming a mobile office. While this innovation improves productivity, it also raises concerns about road safety, making Google’s restrictions an important step.
