JSW Motors Preparing Multiple SUV Launches in India

JSW Group is expanding its presence in the automotive sector through its new division, JSW Motors, and plans to introduce several new SUVs in India.

The company has already confirmed the upcoming launch of a plug-in hybrid SUV based on the Jetour T2 along with the iCar V23 electric SUV.

Recent developments suggest a third model may also join the lineup, based on the Jaecoo J5 platform.

New SUV Prototype Spotted Testing

A heavily camouflaged prototype believed to be based on the Jaecoo J5 platform was recently spotted undergoing road testing near Pune.

The original Jaecoo J5 model debuted globally in 2025 and is currently available in markets such as China and Indonesia.

Reports indicate that the version being tested in India could be the fully electric variant, aligning with JSW Motors’ long-term electrification strategy.

Design and Interior Features

The international version of the Jaecoo J5 features a modern and minimalist design, including:

  • Slim LED lighting

  • Aerodynamically optimized 19-inch alloy wheels

  • 14.8-inch vertical touchscreen infotainment system

Higher variants globally also offer premium features such as:

  • Panoramic sunroof

  • Ventilated seats

  • 540-degree camera system

  • Six airbags

  • Level-2 ADAS driver assistance

For the Indian market, the model is expected to be sold under JSW branding.

Powertrain Options

Globally, the Jaecoo J5 platform supports multiple powertrain configurations.

Hybrid Powertrain

  • 1.5-liter turbo-petrol hybrid

  • 221 bhp

  • 295 Nm torque

  • Approx. 18.8 km/l fuel efficiency

Electric Version

  • 58.9 kWh battery pack

  • Estimated range: around 402 km

  • Motor output: 211 PS and 288 Nm torque

The electric variant is widely expected to be a key part of JSW Motors’ EV lineup in India.

New Manufacturing Facility in Maharashtra

JSW Motors is currently setting up a new manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.

Production at the plant is expected to begin in August 2026.

The company’s launch roadmap indicates:

  1. Plug-in hybrid SUV debut first

  2. Battery-electric models to follow later

This strategy highlights JSW’s ambition to enter the growing Indian EV and hybrid SUV market.
