JSW Motors Testing Chery iCar V23-Based SUV in India

JSW Motors is preparing to launch a new electric SUV in India based on the Chery iCar V23. Recently, a camouflaged test mule of the SUV was spotted during road testing. Spy shots of the vehicle were shared by RushLane.

This V23-based SUV is expected to become the third product in JSW Motors’ lineup, which will include rebadged versions of models from Chinese brands such as Jetour, Jaecoo, and iCar—all sub-brands of Chery Automobile.

Reports suggest that the iCar V23-based SUV will arrive after the Jetour T2-based PHEV and the Jaecoo J5-based SUV in JSW’s future lineup.

Boxy Design With G-Wagon-Style Tail Lamps

The test mule seen in the spy images features a rugged and boxy design. Although the rear section of the SUV is partially covered with camouflage, a bulge on the tailgate is visible, which may serve as a storage compartment for charging cables.

The SUV also appears to have horizontal tail lamps similar to the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, giving it a distinctive look. Other visible design elements include:

  • Large wheel arches

  • Side steps

  • A kinked rear window line

These styling cues give the SUV a strong off-road-inspired appearance.

Up to 510 km Driving Range

In global markets, the Chery iCar V23 is available with two battery pack options.

Battery and performance options:

  • 59.93 kWh battery pack

    • Rear-mounted motor

    • 136 hp power

    • 180 Nm torque

    • CLTC range: 401 km

  • 81.76 kWh battery pack

    • Dual-motor setup

    • 211 hp power

    • 292 Nm torque

    • CLTC range: 510 km

The SUV supports DC fast charging speeds ranging from 85 kW to over 100 kW.

Expected Price and Launch Timeline

The SUV sold in China has a unique boxy design, measuring about 4.2 metres in length with a 2.7-metre wheelbase.

The India-spec version of the Chery iCar V23 is expected to start at under ₹20 lakh. It will likely be assembled at JSW Motors’ Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant and could launch around 2028.
