Kia EV2 Electric SUV Launched: Affordable EV with Up to 453 KM Range and Modern Features

Kia EV2 entry-level electric SUV offers up to 453 km range, fast charging, modern design, and a starting price of around €32,000.

Kia EV2 Electric SUV – Kia EV2: Practical, Affordable Electric SUV for Everyday Use

Kia has expanded its electric vehicle lineup with the launch of the Kia EV2, an entry-level electric SUV designed to offer practicality, affordability, and modern features. Positioned as a compact B-SUV, the EV2 aims to make electric mobility more accessible to a wider audience.

Affordable Pricing and Variants

The Kia EV2 is priced starting at just under €32,000, while a more basic entry-level variant priced at €26,600 will be available later this year. For buyers seeking more features, the higher-spec “Earth” variant comes equipped with advanced comfort and safety technologies borrowed from Kia’s larger EV models.

Platform and Battery Options

Built on the 400-volt version of Kia’s E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform), the EV2 offers two battery options:

  • 42.2 kWh (LFP battery): Up to 317 km range
  • 61.0 kWh (NMC battery): Up to 453 km range

Both variants support fast charging up to 118 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in around 30 minutes. Additionally, the EV2 supports 22 kW AC charging for convenient home and public charging.

Performance and Driving Experience

The EV2 comes with a single electric motor setup. Interestingly, the smaller battery version produces slightly more power (108 kW / 146 hp) compared to the long-range version (99.5 kW / 135 hp).

On the road, the EV2 delivers adequate performance for daily driving, with smooth acceleration and a top speed of 161 km/h. However, the suspension setup feels a bit soft, and the steering may come across as slightly vague, especially at higher speeds.

Design and Exterior Styling

The Kia EV2 features a rugged yet minimalist design language.

  • Bold front design with vertical LED lighting elements
  • Clean geometric lines along the sides
  • Simple and functional rear design

Its compact dimensions (4.06 meters in length) make it suitable for urban driving while maintaining a strong SUV stance.

Interior and Features

Inside, the EV2 focuses on practicality and simplicity. While the cabin uses a mix of hard and soft plastics, it offers comfortable seating and a functional layout.

Key interior features include:

  • High-resolution digital displays
  • Smartphone connectivity and app integration
  • Navigation system and rearview camera
  • Optional Harman Kardon sound system

Buyers can choose between a standard rear bench seat or a sliding two-seat configuration for added flexibility.

Space and Practicality

The EV2 offers decent storage space for its size:

  • Boot capacity:
    • 403–1,201 liters (4-seater)
    • 362–1,160 liters (5-seater)
  • Frunk: 15 liters

This makes it a practical choice for small families and daily commuting needs.

Range and Real-World Efficiency

While the official WLTP range figures are competitive, real-world driving conditions may result in lower range performance. In testing, the vehicle required recharging after approximately 250 km, highlighting the gap between claimed and actual efficiency.

Warranty and Reliability

Kia continues to offer its strong warranty package:

  • 7-year vehicle warranty
  • 8-year battery warranty

This adds significant value and peace of mind for buyers considering an electric vehicle.

Note: The Kia EV2 stands out as a practical and affordable electric SUV, offering modern features, decent range, and strong warranty coverage. While it may not deliver class-leading performance or premium interior quality, it succeeds in providing a well-rounded package for everyday use.

With competitive pricing and proven EV technology, the EV2 is expected to play a key role in expanding Kia’s presence in the global electric vehicle market.
