KNK Mini Bike Launched in India at ₹50,000: The Iconic Monkey Bike Returns After 40 Years

KNK Mini Bike: The Iconic ‘Monkey Bike’ Returns to India After 40 Years — Priced at ₹50,000

Mini bike enthusiasts in India have reason to celebrate. After nearly four decades, the classic monkey bike concept has made a comeback, courtesy of domestic go-kart manufacturer KNK Karts. The company has launched a new petrol-powered mini bike starting at approximately ₹50,000, with bookings now open and first-batch deliveries expected in June 2026. Notably, the bike has been entirely designed, developed, and manufactured in India.

The Monkey Bike Legacy

The monkey bike holds a special place in Indian pop culture. In the 1970s, the Rajdoot GTS — a small, fun mini bike — was widely popular. Its appearance in the 1973 Bollywood film Bobby, ridden by actor Rishi Kapoor, made it a cultural icon, earning it the affectionate nickname the “Bobby Bike.” The model redefined the mini bike segment before production eventually ceased. Now, nearly 40 years later, KNK Karts is reviving the spirit of that era with a modern interpretation.

Engine and Performance

The KNK mini bike is powered by an 80cc petrol engine producing approximately 4 hp. While this may seem modest, context matters — the bike weighs just 40 kg, allowing the engine to accelerate it with ease. For reference, 4 hp is less than half the output of typical commuter motorcycles such as the Hero Splendor or Honda CD 110.

The bike uses a twist-and-go system with a centrifugal clutch and chain drive, meaning there is no clutch lever or gear pedal to operate. Like an automatic scooter, the rider simply twists the throttle and the bike moves — making it accessible even for those with limited riding experience.

Chassis and Suspension

The KNK mini bike is built around a tubular chassis and features single-sided trailing link suspension at the front and a monoshock at the rear. It rides on large, thick block-pattern off-road tyres for enhanced grip on rough terrain. Despite its compact dimensions, the bike has a purposeful, aggressive stance.

Brakes

Braking is handled by disc brakes on both wheels. These are cable-operated mechanical disc brakes rather than hydraulic units — a setup commonly found on higher-end bicycles as well. The company also offers factory customisation of the final drive ratio, allowing buyers to tune the bike for either quicker acceleration or a higher top speed.

Important: Not for Public Roads

The KNK mini bike is not road-legal and cannot be registered with the RTO. It is designed exclusively for use on private property, off-road tracks, closed circuits, and farmhouses. Prospective buyers should keep this in mind before purchasing.
