Mahindra Preparing Facelifts for Thar, Scorpio-N, and Scorpio Classic

Mahindra is preparing to introduce facelifts for three of its popular ladder-frame SUVs — the Thar, Scorpio-N, and Scorpio Classic. All three are strong sellers in the Indian market. Here is what to expect from each model.

Mahindra Scorpio-N Facelift

The Scorpio-N facelift is expected to retain its overall design while introducing subtle styling updates and additional features. Spy photos reveal updated lighting, revised front and rear bumpers, redesigned fog lamps, and new wheel designs. The current 18-inch wheels are also expected to be upgraded to 19-inch units.

Inside, the cabin layout is likely to remain similar to the current model, though significant improvements are anticipated. The facelifted model may gain a panoramic sunroof and a larger infotainment display, and is expected to be equipped with ADAS. Engine options will continue to include the 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol units.

The updated model is likely to see minor design changes, including a revised grille, updated lighting, and new wheel options. More premium trim levels and additional features may also be introduced, along with a more comfortable and practical cabin. The Scorpio Classic will continue to be powered by the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine.

Mahindra Thar Facelift

A recently spotted test mule offers a preview of the changes in store for the facelifted Thar. The upcoming 3-door version is expected to adopt several design elements from the 5-door Thar ROXX, including the distinctive six-pack grille. The circular LED headlights are expected to gain integrated LED DRLs, while the front bumper, LED tail lamp cluster, and rear bumper are all likely to receive styling updates. The tailgate-mounted spare tyre will remain in place.

Inside, the dashboard layout is expected to stay largely unchanged. Existing features such as the 10.25-inch standalone touchscreen, rear AC vents, sliding centre armrest, and fuel door release button will be carried over. New additions are expected to include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and automatic climate control.

The facelifted Thar is expected to carry over the current engine lineup: a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel, a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol, and a 1.5-litre diesel for lower variants.

Exterior Changes

The upcoming 3-door Thar facelift is expected to borrow styling cues from the Mahindra Thar ROXX, including:

  • New rear bumper styling

The tailgate-mounted spare wheel is expected to remain unchanged.

2.0-litre Turbo Petrol Petrol
1.5-litre Diesel Lower variants

Should You Wait Before Buying?

Mahindra clearly isn’t sitting still. With three facelifts reportedly in the pipeline, the brand is making sure its ladder-frame SUVs don’t start feeling dated in a market that keeps moving forward.

That said, don’t expect these updates to shake things up completely. The focus is on freshening up the looks, packing in more tech, and adding features that buyers have been asking for — all while keeping the same tough engines and platforms that made people fall in love with these SUVs in the first place.

So if you’re on the fence about buying a Thar, Scorpio-N, or Scorpio Classic right now, a little patience might pay off. You’d be getting essentially the same reliable machine, just with a sharper face and a smarter cabin — and that’s not a bad deal at all.
