There is good news for Maruti Suzuki enthusiasts, as the company has confirmed plans to launch multiple new electric vehicles in India over the coming years.

The future looks exciting for Maruti Suzuki fans, with the company aiming to significantly expand its EV portfolio by 2031. According to reports, Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer (Marketing & Sales), stated that Maruti Suzuki will introduce new electric models across different segments.

The company has already begun sales of its first electric SUV, the e-Vitara. Recently, during a delivery event in Hyderabad, 108 units were handed over to customers in a single day. Building on this momentum, Maruti plans to introduce three more electric vehicles by 2031.

Upcoming Electric MPV (Codename: YMC)

One of the most anticipated launches is a fully electric MPV, codenamed YMC. It is expected to debut in the Indian market in the last quarter of 2026, possibly around the festive season (September–October).

This three-row electric MPV will compete with models like the Kia Carens Clavis EV and BYD eMax 7. It is expected to share several components with the e-Vitara, including its battery pack, platform, and electric motor.

The MPV is likely to be offered with 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery packs, delivering a claimed range of up to 500 km on a single charge. A Toyota-based version of this electric MPV is also expected to launch in India by early 2027.

Maruti Suzuki eWX Electric Hatchback

Maruti Suzuki is also working on a compact electric hatchback based on the eWX concept, which was showcased at the Japan Mobility Show.

Expected to launch in the second half of 2027, this model will target the mass-market EV segment and compete with cars like the Tata Tiago EV and MG Comet EV.

Built on the K-EV platform, the eWX is likely to feature a 35 kWh battery pack with a driving range of around 200–250 km. The company is also planning to manufacture battery cells locally, which could help keep costs competitive. The expected starting price is likely to be under ₹10 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx EV

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx EV will be positioned between the eWX hatchback and the e-Vitara in the brand’s electric lineup.

This fully electric crossover is expected to retain a design similar to the current ICE version, with some EV-specific updates such as a revised front grille, new DRLs, and redesigned alloy wheels.

Maruti has already started development work on the Fronx EV, and it is expected to launch in early 2028. The model is likely to offer multiple battery options, with an estimated driving range of 350–400 km.
