Mercedes-Benz has discontinued several entry-level and electric models in India as part of a major strategy shift. The models phased out include the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine, Mercedes-Benz EQA, Mercedes-Benz EQB, and Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV.
With these changes, the Mercedes-Benz GLA now becomes the brand’s most affordable offering in India, effectively raising the entry price into the Mercedes-Benz lineup.
At the same time, the company is preparing to launch its next big electric model, the Mercedes-Benz CLA EV, on April 24, 2026. This model is expected to bring cutting-edge technology, including an 800-volt architecture and a claimed range of up to 792 km.

Why These Major Portfolio Changes?
The A-Class Limousine, launched in March 2021, was Mercedes-Benz’s entry-level model in India, with a starting price of around ₹44.46 lakh. With its discontinuation, new buyers will now have to enter the brand through the GLA SUV.
Industry experts believe this move reflects Mercedes-Benz’s strategy to move away from entry-level luxury and focus more on premium and high-margin vehicles.
Electric Portfolio Restructured
Mercedes-Benz has also streamlined its electric vehicle lineup in India:
- EQA: Previously the most affordable EV from the brand, now discontinued
- EQB: The three-row electric SUV has been removed from the portfolio
- EQE SUV: The premium electric SUV is being phased out to make room for newer models
This shift indicates a transition toward next-generation EV platforms and technologies.
CLA EV – The Next Big Launch
The future of Mercedes-Benz’s EV strategy in India is expected to revolve around the upcoming CLA EV.
Key expected highlights:
- 800-volt architecture for ultra-fast charging
- 85 kWh battery pack
- Range up to 792 km (WLTP)
- 272 hp electric motor
- 0–100 km/h in 6.7 seconds
With these specifications, the CLA EV is positioned to be a game-changer in the luxury EV segment.
What Is Mercedes-Benz’s Strategy?
Mercedes-Benz is now focusing on:
- Premium and high-margin luxury vehicles
- Advanced electric vehicle technology
- Strengthening brand exclusivity
By discontinuing entry-level models, the company aims to improve profitability while positioning itself as a more premium and technology-driven brand.
With upcoming models like the CLA EV, Mercedes-Benz is also looking to compete more aggressively with global EV players such as Tesla.
