Jewar Airport Inauguration: A Major Boost for NCR Connectivity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the first phase of the Noida International Airport, marking a significant milestone in India’s aviation sector.

Developed at an estimated cost of ₹11,200 crore, the airport will serve as the second international airport in the Delhi-NCR region, improving passenger convenience and regional connectivity.

  • Location: Jewar, Uttar Pradesh
  • Initial Capacity: 12 million passengers per year
  • Future Expansion: Up to 70 million passengers annually

The airport is expected to significantly reduce congestion at the existing Indira Gandhi International Airport and strengthen NCR’s position as a major aviation hub.

PM Modi Highlights India’s Rapid Development

During the inauguration, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized India’s consistent growth even during global challenges. He noted that this airport is among the four major infrastructure projects completed in western Uttar Pradesh in recent weeks.

  • Commissioning of a semiconductor plant in Noida
  • Progress of the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail
  • Expansion of the Meerut Metro

Dignitaries and Project Vision

The event was attended by Yogi Adityanath and Governor Anandiben Patel.

Noida International Airport CEO Christoph Schnellmann stated that the airport will combine Swiss efficiency with Indian hospitality, enhancing travel experiences for passengers.

Strategic Importance of Jewar Airport

The new airport will serve as a major aviation hub for cities like Noida, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Mathura, and Agra, while also acting as a gateway to key religious and tourist destinations.
