Electric hydrofoil-powered minibuses are set to operate along Norway’s iconic fjords, as the country has ordered 20 Candela P-12 electric boats.
Each vessel can carry up to 25 passengers, making them ideal for small-scale tourist transport.
Norway has long been a global leader in electric vehicle adoption, and it is now extending its focus on electrification to maritime transport—particularly in the tourism sector.
The country has placed its largest-ever order for electric hydrofoil vessels, acquiring 20 Candela P-12 boats. These vessels will be used to transport tourists across Norway’s famous fjords, offering a cleaner and more efficient alternative to conventional boats.
The Candela P-12 can reach speeds of up to 25 knots and has a cruising range of approximately 74 km. It is equipped with computer-controlled carbon fiber hydrofoils that lift the hull above the water at speeds exceeding 18 knots. In this elevated mode, water resistance is significantly reduced, lowering energy consumption by up to 80% compared to traditional vessels of similar size.
The first batch of these electric boats is expected to be delivered to Norway next year.
