A new SUV is set to enter the Indian market to challenge popular off-roaders like the Mahindra Thar and Maruti Suzuki Jimny. French automaker Renault has released a teaser of its upcoming Bridger Concept SUV, which many enthusiasts are already calling the “Mini Duster.”

The teaser images reveal a rugged and boxy design, suggesting that the Bridger will target buyers looking for a compact SUV with strong off-road styling. The model is expected to compete in the sub-4 meter compact SUV segment, which has seen rising demand in recent years.

Global Unveil on March 10

Renault has confirmed that the Bridger Concept SUV will be unveiled globally on March 10. The production version of the vehicle is expected to be manufactured in India and exported to international markets as well.

The company plans to position the Bridger between the Renault Kiger and the upcoming Renault Duster in its product lineup. Interestingly, Renault is also set to announce the price of the new Duster on March 17, making March an important month for the brand in India.

With the growing popularity of lifestyle SUVs like the Thar and Jimny, several automakers are exploring this segment, and Renault seems ready to enter the competition.

Design and Expected Features

Based on the teaser released by the company, the Renault Bridger Concept will feature a boxy SUV design with strong off-road styling cues. One of the key highlights seen in the teaser is a spare wheel mounted on the tailgate, which enhances its rugged appeal.

Other expected design elements include:

  • Illuminated Renault badging on the front grille

  • Upright stance with muscular proportions

  • Five-door body style for better practicality

  • Roof rails and bold wheel arches

These design cues indicate that the Bridger will focus on SUV character rather than crossover styling.

Engine and Performance Expectations

Although the company has not officially confirmed the powertrain details, reports suggest the production version could use the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine that currently powers the Renault Kiger.

Expected powertrain options may include:

  • 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine

  • Manual transmission

  • Automatic transmission option

If Renault wants the Bridger to compete directly with off-roaders like the Mahindra Thar and Maruti Suzuki Jimny, the company may also consider offering a 4-wheel-drive option in the future.

Renault’s Strategy for the SUV Market

SUV demand in India continues to grow rapidly, especially in the compact and lifestyle SUV segments. The success of models like the Mahindra Thar has encouraged several manufacturers to introduce rugged-looking vehicles.

With the Bridger Concept, Renault appears to be preparing a product that could attract buyers who want the styling and appeal of an off-roader in a compact size and affordable price range.

More details about the concept and its production plans are expected to be revealed during the global unveiling on March 10.
