“Renault India is gearing up for a massive second innings, led by the legendary Duster nameplate. The French automaker is not just bringing back the standard Duster but is also planning a comprehensive lineup of Duster-based SUVs to dominate the Indian market.
At the heart of this strategy is a new Sub-4-meter SUV (codenamed RB3-K2), popularly being called the ‘Mini Duster.’ Expected to launch by Diwali 2027, this compact SUV aims to offer the most diverse powertrain portfolio in India, featuring Petrol, Turbo-Petrol, CNG, Hybrid, and even Electric (EV) variants. The EV version is rumored to offer two battery sizes: 35 kWh and 55 kWh, targeting a price bracket of ₹10 lakh to ₹20 lakh.
Renault’s internal targets are ambitious, with an expected sales boost of 80,000 to 90,000 units annually from this segment alone. This revival plan follows Renault taking full control of its Chennai manufacturing facility, allowing for faster R&D and a unified organizational structure.
The ‘Mini Duster’ will be joined by the next-gen Duster and the larger Bigster, all built on the highly localized R-GMP modular architecture. With these three power-packed SUVs, Renault is set to challenge current segment leaders like Tata Motors, Mahindra, and Hyundai, while also positioning India as a major export hub for the Middle East and Africa.”
