Renault’s new RGMP platform: Designed for sub-4-meter to 4.7-meter cars, will also support EV and 4×4 technology

Renault has revealed complete details about its new RGMP (Renault Global Modular Platform). This platform is capable of supporting sub-4-meter to 4.7-meter cars, multiple body styles, EV, hybrid, and 4x4 systems.

Renault RGMP Platform: What is the company’s new modular platform? Learn the full details

French automobile company Renault has shared detailed information about its new Global Modular Platform (RGMP). This platform was first introduced for the new-generation Renault Duster. The company says it has been specifically designed and engineered keeping in mind the needs of the Indian market.

However, this platform also shares some technical aspects with Renault’s global CMF platform. The new RGMP platform is highly scalable, allowing the company to develop vehicles of various sizes and body styles.

Designed for cars ranging from sub-4 meters to 4.7 meters

Renault’s new RGMP platform is designed to accommodate cars ranging from sub-4 meters to 4.7 meters in length. This means that this platform can be used to build anything from compact cars to mid-size SUVs.

The platform’s unique feature is its scalability. The company can modify three key components as needed:

. Front Overhang

. Rear Overhang

. Wheelbase

These components can be shortened or lengthened to create different models.

Great Flexibility in Wheelbase and Size

The RGMP platform supports a variety of wheelbases and dimensions.

. Wheelbase: 2632 mm to 2748 mm

. Front Overhang: 780 mm to 860 mm

. Rear Overhang: 665 mm to 1020 mm

Furthermore, this platform supports wheel sizes ranging from 16 to 19 inches. Tire sections can range from 205 mm to 225 mm.

The new Duster SUV is based on the middle configuration of this platform, which has:

. Wheelbase: 2657 mm

. Front Overhang: 855 mm

. Rear Overhang: 834 mm

Multiple body styles, including hatchbacks, sedans, and MPVs

Renault says the RGMP platform isn’t just for SUVs. It can be used to build a variety of top-of-the-line body styles, such as:

. Hatchback

. Sedan

. MPV

. SUV

This means that Renault could launch several new cars based on this platform in the future.

Seating Configurations from 5 to 7 Seats

The RGMP platform is designed to offer a variety of seating options.

Possible Seating Layouts:

. 5-Seater

. 6-Seater

. 7-Seater

Renault claims that the third row of vehicles built on this platform will also offer significant space, in line with the segment.

Petrol, Hybrid, CNG, and EV Ready

Renault’s new platform supports a variety of powertrain options.

Possible Powertrain Options:

. Turbo Petrol Engine

. Strong Hybrid System

. CNG Powertrain

. Electric Powertrain (EV-Ready)

The new Renault Duster will also be offered with turbo-petrol and strong hybrid options. The turbo-petrol variant will launch soon, while the hybrid version is expected during the festive season.

Support for 4×4 Drive Systems

The RGMP platform is also designed for all-wheel-drive (4×4) systems.

It supports two types of 4×4 systems:

. Mechanical 4×4 – in which the engine powers all wheels.

. Electric 4×4 – in which an electric motor powers one axle.

A Strong Hybrid 4×4 version of the Duster is also available in global markets, with the rear axle powered by an electric motor.

The first sub-4 meter model will be unveiled on March 10th.

Renault is also planning to use this platform in upcoming sub-4 meter models. The first example could be the Bridger Concept, which will be unveiled on March 10th.

 Conclusion

Renault’s new RGMP platform could prove to be a major step forward for the company. It will allow the brand to develop a variety of new models, from small hatchbacks to large SUVs, hybrids, and electric cars, all on a single platform. In the future, many new Renault vehicles could be based on this platform in the Indian market.
