Tesla Cybercab Designed for Accessibility With Wheelchair-Friendly Seats and Braille Features

Tesla Cybercab robotaxi adds wheelchair access, Braille controls and manual door release for safety. Production begins at Gigafactory Texas.

The new Tesla Cybercab features seating designed to accommodate wheelchair users, with doors that can be opened manually in the event of a power failure.

Tesla has confirmed that the Cybercab’s seat height is designed to accommodate standard wheelchair access. According to Tesla engineer Eric, accessibility is essential in autonomous vehicles to ensure freedom of movement for all users.

The car doors can also be opened manually in the event of a power outage, enhancing safety not only for passengers with limited mobility but for all riders. This is particularly relevant given reports in recent years of fatalities involving vehicles whose electric door handles became locked following accidents.

Tesla’s Cybercab lead engineer also confirmed that Braille will be included on the interior door handles and on the hazard warning button for blind and visually impaired passengers.

Earlier reports indicated that the Cybercab offers more legroom than any other Tesla model, despite its compact exterior dimensions. Drone operator Joe Tegtmeyer has released footage from the Gigafactory showing the Cybercab’s camera cleaning system in action. Several units without steering wheels or side mirrors were also spotted at the Giga Texas test site, preparing for crash testing.

Tesla announced that the first production Cybercab has rolled off the assembly line, with sales expected to begin at under $30,000 by the end of 2026.
