Tesla is about to release a breakthrough autopilot system for everyone — one that will power its robotaxi service.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced the timing of the next major release of the Full Self-Driving system. He stated that Tesla is already testing version 14.3 internally. The wider release is planned “in a few weeks,” so it should likely be expected by the end of April.
For several months, Tesla owners with Hardware 4 have been using Full Self-Driving version 14.2 and later. Currently, the latest version of FSD is v14.2.2. However, many owners were eagerly awaiting the next release, version 14.3, which Musk praised.
Musk previously stated that version 14.3 “is the last big piece of the puzzle.” He added: “We’re going to add a lot of reasoning and reinforcement learning. To get to scale, Tesla will need to build a gigantic chip factory. I don’t think we can get AI chip production up to several hundred gigawatts a year fast enough, so we’ll have to build a factory.”
Version 14.3 is expected to be a real breakthrough for Tesla’s full autonomous driving system, as it powers the latest robotaxis. Several significant additions are expected, including the “Banish” feature, also known as “Reverse Summon,” which will search for a parking space after dropping off passengers at their destination.
