Ultra-rapid EV charging hub planned in Brow with new facilities including 300kW chargers

Proposal for a 300kW ultra-rapid EV charging hub in Brow featuring 10 charging bays, a fuel station, a drive-through coffee shop, and the potential creation of 31 jobs.

New charging facility planned for EV drivers in Brow – In Brow, a small but rapidly growing town in the UK, a major project is planned to improve facilities for electric vehicle (EV) drivers. The proposal would create a modern roadside service facility combining a traditional fuel station with 10 ultra-rapid 300kW EV charging bays.

The project aims to boost EV uptake and provide improved infrastructure for residents and travelers. If approved, it could significantly increase the availability of high‑power EV charging in the area.

The proposal has been put forward by Brookfield Property (Holdings) Limited and is currently under consideration by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Project proposed off Stanley Jackson Way

The project is proposed for a site off Stanley Jackson Way. The location is considered strategic, serving both passing travelers and local residents. If approved, the site would be developed as a modern roadside service centre offering multiple amenities.

Key proposed facilities: a fuel filling station; a dedicated EV charging hub; a drive-through coffee shop; car-wash and jet-wash services; and a retail shop.

300kW ultra-rapid charging bays are the headline feature

The hub would include 10 charging bays, each capable of delivering 300kW. Such high‑power chargers can charge many modern EV models to around 80% in roughly 20–30 minutes. This capability will be particularly valuable to drivers on long journeys who need fast top-ups.

Addressing a shortage of high‑power charging in East Riding

A key aim of the plan is to tackle the current shortage of ultra-fast charging stations in the East Riding area. At present, high‑power chargers are limited locally, so the new hub could provide significant relief for both residents and through-travelers. As EV adoption grows, expanding fast-charging networks is increasingly seen as essential infrastructure.

More options for local residents

Currently, the only nearby refuelling option is the petrol station by the Morrisons supermarket. The proposed development would give residents more local options for fuel and EV charging and could reduce the need to travel to the A63 for such services. This could save time and ease some local traffic pressure.

Potential creation of 31 permanent jobs

The scheme could create around 31 permanent jobs. Roles could include retail staff, café workers, fuel station operators, maintenance staff, and car‑wash attendants—offering new employment opportunities for the local community.

Lichfields advising on planning

Planning consultancy Lichfields is advising on the project. Senior planner Casey Smith said the development would provide a modern roadside service in a highly convenient location, combining traditional fuelling services with advanced EV charging infrastructure. She added that the scheme could strengthen the local economy by creating jobs and improving services for passing travellers.

An important step for Brow’s development

Aziz Patel, director at Brookfield Property (Holdings) Limited, described the project as an important new facility for Brow, addressing the town’s need for supporting infrastructure. He said the scheme would not only deliver ultra-rapid EV charging but also enhance traditional fuelling options and introduce new services for the area.

Working with the local community

The developer says it will work with the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and local residents as the application progresses to ensure the project aligns with local needs and planning objectives.

Growing importance of EV infrastructure

As EV numbers rise worldwide, robust charging networks are increasingly necessary. Ultra-fast charging hubs are important because they make long-distance travel easier, reduce charging times, and make EV ownership more convenient. The Brow proposal is viewed as a strategic step in expanding that network.

If approved, the development could offer significant benefits to EV drivers and local residents alike: fast charging, improved amenities, and a single location offering multiple services. The East Riding of Yorkshire Council will decide whether the project can proceed.
