Hybrid 7-Seater SUVs Set to Transform the Indian Market
The 7-seater SUV segment in India is expected to see a major shift toward hybrid technology in the coming years. Traditionally dominated by diesel models, this space will soon feature SUVs equipped with powerful hybrid engines and electric motors.
Several new models are expected to launch soon, with prices likely ranging between ₹18 lakh and ₹30 lakh. Key upcoming models include the Jetour T2, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder 7-seater, Renault Boreal, and Nissan Tecton.
Jetour T2 Plug-in Hybrid
The Jetour T2 plug-in hybrid is expected to be one of the first launches in this segment. It will be introduced by JSW Motors, part of the JSW Group, likely around the Diwali festive season.
The SUV will initially be launched as a 5-seater, with a 7-seater version expected later. It will be brought to India via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route and assembled locally.
Powering the Jetour T2 will be a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with two electric motors and a 26.7 kWh battery. This setup is expected to deliver around 375 bhp and 610 Nm of torque, along with an electric-only range of up to 139 km.
Expected Price: ₹20–30 lakh
Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder 7-Seater
The 7-seater version of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder has been spotted testing, suggesting a launch by the end of this year.
The SUV is expected to feature a longer body with extended overhangs and a spacious cabin layout. It will likely use the same 1.5-litre petrol-hybrid powertrain, producing around 116 bhp. Reports also suggest the possibility of an all-wheel-drive system.
Expected Price: ₹18–22 lakh
Renault Boreal
The Renault Boreal (correcting earlier spelling) is expected to be the 7-seater version of the new-generation Duster and could launch by the end of this year.
It is likely to come with a 1.8-litre petrol engine paired with two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery pack. This setup is expected to generate around 160 bhp and 172 Nm of torque.
The Boreal will compete with models like the Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV700, and Tata Safari.
Expected Price: ₹18–25 lakh
Nissan Tecton 7-Seater
The Nissan Tecton 7-seater is also expected to arrive soon, sharing its hybrid powertrain with the Renault Boreal and other alliance models.
It will likely feature the same 1.8-litre hybrid engine setup, with styling differences to distinguish it from its Renault counterpart.
Expected Price: ₹18–25 lakh
NB: The shift toward hybrid technology in the 7-seater SUV segment marks a significant change in the Indian auto market. These upcoming models promise better fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and modern features, making them strong alternatives to traditional diesel SUVs.
For buyers planning a family SUV purchase, these upcoming hybrid models could be worth waiting for.
