Yamaha has a strong presence in the premium two-wheeler segment in India, particularly with its 125cc scooters and sporty models like the Aerox 155. The Aerox 155 is already established as a unique and performance-oriented scooter in the Indian market. Now, Yamaha has introduced a more advanced version of this scooter – the Aerox Alpha – in Japan for the 2026 model year (MY26), bringing significant upgrades in terms of technology and features.

The Aerox Alpha was previously limited to ASEAN countries like Indonesia, but is now being launched in Japan for the first time. This move reflects Yamaha’s strategy to strengthen its sporty scooters globally. In Japan, this scooter will serve as a third option alongside existing maxi-style scooters like the X Force and NMax, but will retain its identity as a sporty and aggressively designed machine.

In terms of design, the 2026 Yamaha Aerox Alpha differs from its Indian counterpart, the Aerox 155. It features a new, sharper look, featuring a unique lighting signature, new projector LED headlamps, and updated LED taillights. Safety features include an emergency stop signal with LED turn indicators, which alerts vehicles behind in case of sudden braking.

Yamaha has also introduced several new color options for this model, making it even more attractive. In Indonesia, the Aerox Alpha is available in several variants: Standard, Cybercity, and Turbo. The Standard variant features classic colors like Black, Red, and Blue, while the Cybercity variant features more stylish and modern shades. The Turbo variant features some cosmetic upgrades, including a premium finish like Elixir Dark Silver.

In terms of features, the Aerox Alpha appears quite advanced in its segment. It features a TFT digital instrument cluster with navigation support and three different display modes. This feature gives the rider a more connected and informed experience.

In addition, the scooter features two riding modes (T and S) that adjust performance to different riding conditions. Notably, it features a Turbo Y-Shift system with three throttle modes (low, medium, and high), further improving acceleration and power delivery.

Yamaha has also strengthened this scooter in terms of braking and suspension. It features dual disc brakes, which provide excellent stopping power. It also comes with a gas-charged rear shock absorber suspension, which ensures a comfortable ride even on rough roads.

Other features include a smart key system, ABS, traction control, and a large 24.5-liter underseat storage, making it practical for everyday use. Its central spine design, which houses the fuel tank, gives the scooter better balance and stability.

Engineering, the Aerox Alpha features the same 155cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology. This engine produces approximately 15.4 PS of power and 14.2 Nm of torque, making it a performance-focused scooter in its segment.

Furthermore, the Turbo variant features Yamaha Electric CVT (YECVT) technology, which provides improved power delivery and control even in a gearless scooter. This system makes riding smoother and more responsive, especially with different throttle modes.

Pricing: The Aerox Alpha is priced in Indonesia starting at approximately IDR 29.9 million (approximately ₹1.65 lakh) and going up to IDR 39.95 million (approximately ₹2.2 lakh). However, no official confirmation has yet been made by Yamaha regarding its launch in India.

Overall, the 2026 Yamaha Aerox Alpha is a scooter that offers a great combination of sporty design, advanced technology, and practical features. If launched in India, it could set a new benchmark in the premium scooter segment and compete with models like the Hero Xoom 160 and Aprilia SR 175.
