Electric Two-Wheeler Boom in India: FY26 Sales Jump 17%, TVS Leads the Market

Electric Scooter Demand Rising Fast: TVS, Bajaj & Ather Drive Growth in FY26

The demand for zero-emission vehicles is rising rapidly in India, especially in the electric two-wheeler segment. Sales numbers clearly reflect this growing trend, and the sector is now on track to achieve new milestones.

As of March 27, 2026, electric two-wheeler sales have reached 1.39 lakh units, already surpassing the 1.31 lakh units recorded during the same period last year. The segment is now approaching its all-time monthly record of 1.45 lakh units, highlighting strong consumer interest.

Subsidies, Discounts & Fuel Concerns Driving Demand

Multiple factors are fueling this growth:

  • Rising fuel prices and concerns over a potential oil crisis
  • Increased awareness of eco-friendly mobility
  • Extension of government EV subsidies until July 2026
  • Attractive year-end discounts by manufacturers

Leading brands like Ather Energy and Ola Electric have rolled out aggressive pricing and offers, attracting a large number of buyers.

FY26 Growth: 17% Year-on-Year Increase

The electric two-wheeler segment posted strong growth in FY26:

  • Total Sales: 1.35 million units
  • FY25 Sales: 1.15 million units
  • Growth: 17% YoY

This growth has been supported by:

  • Expansion of dealership networks
  • Launch of new and affordable models
  • Significant improvements in charging infrastructure

TVS Motor Company Becomes Market Leader

TVS Motor Company has emerged as the top player in the segment, crossing 3.3 lakh units in FY26, a significant jump from 2.38 lakh units last year. Its popular iQube range has played a key role in this success.

With this achievement, TVS has become the first electric two-wheeler brand in India to cross 3 lakh annual sales.

Strong Performance by Bajaj & Ather

  • Bajaj Auto secured the second position with 2.76 lakh units, up from 2.31 lakh units last year.
  • Ather Energy recorded one of the biggest growth jumps, increasing sales from 1.31 lakh units to nearly 2.3 lakh units.

Meanwhile, Hero MotoCorp delivered a surprise performance by nearly tripling its sales to 1.39 lakh units, compared to less than 50,000 units in FY25.

Ola Electric Faces Decline but Bets on Low Pricing

In contrast, Ola Electric witnessed a sharp decline in sales, dropping from 3.44 lakh units to 1.61 lakh units.

However, the company is now focusing on aggressive pricing strategies, introducing electric scooters starting at just ₹49,999 to regain market share and attract budget-conscious buyers.

Note: India’s electric two-wheeler market is clearly entering a high-growth phase. With strong government support, competitive pricing, and improving infrastructure, the segment is set to expand even further.

As more affordable models enter the market and awareness continues to grow, electric scooters and bikes are likely to become the preferred choice for everyday commuters in India.
