The 2026 models of the Yamaha YZF-R25 and Yamaha YZF-R3 have been unveiled ahead of their launch in Japan. This time around, the company has not introduced any major mechanical changes to these lightweight supersport bikes; instead, the focus has been placed entirely on new color options. Keeping its fans in mind, Yamaha has introduced a mix of classic and trendy colors—most notably, a new “Light Green” shade that is generating quite a buzz.

A Fresh Look with New Colors

The most significant update for the 2026 Yamaha R25 and R3 lies in their new color options. Yamaha’s signature blue shade makes a return on these bikes, a color intrinsically linked to the identity of Yamaha Racing. This blue livery lends the bikes a classic, premium, and sporty aesthetic.

This blue theme features a striking combination of blue and black, accented by impressive graphics adorning the fairings and body panels. A standout feature of this variant is that the wheels are also finished entirely in blue, making the bike look even more unique.

Additionally, an “All Black” color option is available. This variant caters to riders who prefer a sleek and aggressive aesthetic. In this version, components such as the fenders, fairings, engine casing, and fuel tank feature a glossy black finish, while the graphics are rendered in gray. This gives the bike a powerful and muscular appeal.

The New Light Green – Especially for Gen Z

While colors like blue and black have always enjoyed enduring popularity, Yamaha has ventured into new territory this time around. The new “Light Green” shade gives these bikes a fresh and trendy appearance.

This color scheme draws inspiration from the Y2K fashion trend, which is currently gaining significant popularity among the youth. The light green hue is paired with dark red accents, which are prominently displayed on the fenders, fairings, and fuel tank. The remaining sections feature a matte black finish, giving the bike a balanced and attractive overall aesthetic. This variant has been designed specifically with Gen Z riders in mind—those who appreciate a unique and trendy look.

70th Anniversary Edition Also Released

Yamaha has also released a 70th Anniversary Edition for its fans. This special edition showcases a stunning combination of red and white, paying homage to the company’s rich racing heritage.

This variant features track-themed graphics and comes equipped with gold-finished USD forks, lending it an even more premium appeal. This edition is tailored for those who feel a deep connection to Yamaha’s racing history.

Engine and Performance

In terms of performance, both bikes remain as potent as ever. The Yamaha R25 is powered by a 249cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC parallel-twin engine that generates approximately 35 PS of power and 23 Nm of torque.

On the other hand, the Yamaha R3 features a 320cc engine, delivering 42 PS of power and 30 Nm of torque. While both engines share a similar basic design, the R3 features a larger bore (68 mm), resulting in higher power output.

Both bikes share an identical stroke length of 44.1 mm, ensuring a perfect balance between engine smoothness and performance. These engines are well-suited for both city commuting and highway cruising, offering a truly sporty riding experience.

Dimensions and Riding Comfort

The design and dimensions of both the Yamaha R25 and R3 are nearly identical. They feature a seat height of 780 mm, which is considered comfortable for the majority of riders.

Both bikes are equipped with 17-inch wheels, fitted with tubeless tires sized 110/70 at the front and 140/70 at the rear. This setup offers enhanced grip and stability.

For braking, both bikes are equipped with disc brakes at both the front and rear, ensuring safe and controlled stopping power. An ABS feature is included as standard, thereby reducing the risk of skidding.

Price and Availability

The price of the 2026 Yamaha R25 starts at approximately JPY 690,800 (around ₹4.04 lakh) in Japan. Its 70th Anniversary Edition is available for JPY 710,800 (around ₹4.16 lakh).

Meanwhile, the starting price for the Yamaha R3 is JPY 726,000 (around ₹4.25 lakh), while its Anniversary Edition comes in at JPY 748,000 (around ₹4.37 lakh).

Conclusion

Overall, the 2026 Yamaha R25 and R3 remain excellent choices for riders seeking a blend of style, performance, and brand value.

Although no major technical updates have been introduced this time around, the new color options lend these bikes a fresh and appealing identity. The Light Green variant, in particular, is likely to prove quite popular among the youth.
