Royal Enfield will no longer be known solely for its roaring Bullet, but also for its silent speed. The company is ushering in a new era with its first electric motorcycle, the Flying Flea C6. This bike isn’t just a new model, but a reincarnation of Royal Enfield’s history dating back to World War II.
Inspired by History: What is the ‘Flying Flea’?
The name ‘Flying Flea’ dates back to the 1940s. At that time, Royal Enfield developed an ultra-lightweight motorcycle that was parachuted onto battlefields from airplanes. Due to its lightweight and all-terrain capability, it was dubbed the ‘Flying Flea’. Today, 80 years later, Royal Enfield is reinventing this legacy in an electric avatar.
Design and Modern Technology
Recently showcased in Milan (EICMA 2024), the Flying Flea C6’s design is a beautiful blend of old and new. Photos of it being tested on the streets of Chennai reveal some key features:
Girder Suspension: It features a ‘girder-style’ front suspension, similar to older bikes, giving it a unique retro look.
Magnesium Battery Case: Magnesium fins have been used to keep the battery cool and enhance its style, helping to dissipate heat quickly.
Lightweight Aluminum Chassis: A specially forged aluminum frame is used, making the bike strong and lightweight.
Premium Features: The round LED headlight, touchscreen TFT console (which will house navigation and smartphone connectivity), and silent belt-drive system give it a premium feel.
Performance and Range (Expected)
Although the company has kept official figures under wraps, leaks and experts suggest that its specifications could be as follows:
Battery Pack: It could have a battery capacity of 4kWh to 5kWh.
Range: In city conditions, the bike can travel 100km to 150km on a single full charge.
Safety: It could feature disc brakes with dual-channel ABS and possibly traction control.
New EV Platform and Future Plans
The Flying Flea C6 is just the beginning. Royal Enfield has developed a new dedicated EV platform for it.
Flying Flea C6: It will be a classic city cruiser.
Flying Flea S6: A ‘scrambler’ version will also be available on this platform, which could be launched by the end of 2026.
Launch Date and Price
The bike’s undisguised appearance on the streets of Chennai means the bike is now almost ready for production. It is expected to reach showrooms in early 2026. It is likely to be priced between Royal Enfield’s 450cc (Himalayan) and 650cc (Interceptor) motorcycles (approximately between ₹3.5 lakh and ₹4 lakh).
With the Royal Enfield Flying Flea C6, the company has demonstrated its willingness to embrace future technology without forgetting its roots. It will be an excellent choice for those looking for a stylish, eco-friendly, and iconic bike to ride around the city.
