Kia and Genesis Recall 236,000 Vehicles Over Fuel Leak Fire Risk

Kia and Genesis have initiated a large-scale global recall affecting approximately 236,000 vehicles due to a potential fuel system defect that could increase fire risk. The issue was identified by the NHTSA, which traced the problem to a manufacturing flaw in the high-pressure fuel line assembly.

According to regulators, the defect may cause fuel line fasteners to loosen over time, leading to a gasoline leak in the engine compartment. If leaked fuel comes into contact with hot engine components, it significantly raises the risk of fire.

The recall impacts several models equipped with 3.5-liter V6 engines, including the Kia Carnival produced between 2022 and 2026. It also affects multiple Genesis models, such as the Genesis G80, Genesis G90, Genesis GV70, and Genesis GV80 from the 2021–2026 model years.

Despite the seriousness of the defect, manufacturers state that there have been no confirmed accidents or injuries linked to the issue so far. However, drivers are advised to watch for warning signs such as a strong smell of fuel inside the cabin or the illumination of the check engine light.

As part of the recall campaign, authorized service centers will inspect the fuel system free of charge. Technicians will either tighten the fasteners to factory specifications or replace affected components with improved parts where necessary.

Owner notification letters are expected to be sent starting June 2026. Until then, vehicle owners are encouraged to remain cautious and seek immediate inspection if any symptoms of fuel leakage appear.
