The Indian automobile sector witnessed several key events over the past week. Volkswagen launched the facelift of its popular Taigun SUV, while VinFast entered the electric MPV segment. Renault began deliveries of the new Duster and also announced future expansion plans. Meanwhile, Kia confirmed new EV and hybrid models for India. These developments highlight increasing choices, advanced features, and a strong push towards electrification.

Volkswagen Taigun Facelift Launched

Volkswagen India launched the 2026 Taigun Facelift on April 9, 2026, at a starting price of ₹10.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The updated SUV gets subtle exterior changes, including new LED headlamps, revised bumpers, and an illuminated VW logo.

Inside, the model now offers ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and updated features. Notably, the 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine is now paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox, promising better efficiency and driving comfort. These upgrades are expected to strengthen its position in the competitive mid-size SUV segment, where it rivals models like the Renault Duster.

VinFast VF MPV 7 Launched in India

Vietnamese EV manufacturer VinFast launched its third model, the VinFast VF MPV 7, in India on April 15, 2026. Priced at ₹24.49 lakh (ex-showroom), this electric 7-seater MPV is aimed at families and fleet buyers.

It comes with a 60.13 kWh battery pack, delivering 201 bhp and 280 Nm of torque, with a claimed range of up to 517 km. Key features include theatre-style seating, AC vents for all three rows, and leatherette upholstery. It will compete with rivals like the BYD eMax 7 and the Kia Carens Clavis EV.

Renault Duster Deliveries Begin

Renault India has started customer deliveries of the new Renault Duster. The first delivery took place in Chennai in the presence of CEO François Provost.

Currently, only turbo-petrol variants are being delivered, while hybrid variants are expected by Diwali 2026. Built on the new CMF-B platform, the SUV offers improved safety, modern features, and enhanced off-road capability. Prices start at ₹10.49 lakh. The company is also expanding its retail network with new ‘R’ stores, and the hybrid version is already sold out in initial bookings.

Kia India’s Mega Plans for the Future

Kia India revealed its long-term strategy at the 2026 CEO Investor Day. The company plans to expand its portfolio to 10 models in India by 2030, with eight electrified options (EVs and hybrids).

Confirmed models include the Kia Syros EV, Kia Sorento Hybrid, and Kia Carnival Hybrid. The Syros EV is expected to launch in 2026, while hybrid models will arrive by 2030. Kia is also focusing on affordable EVs and may introduce hybrid options in popular models like the Kia Seltos. Additionally, the company plans to expand its dealership network to 800 outlets.

Renault’s Future Strategy for India

Renault India has announced plans to launch seven new vehicles in India by 2030 under its “FutureReady India” strategy. The company is targeting a 5% market share.

Renault will focus on two new platforms—RGEP (Renault Group Entry Platform) and RGMP. The RGEP platform will support affordable cars, including successors to models like the Renault Kiger and Renault Triber, with petrol, CNG, AMT, and CVT options.

The company also plans to transform its Chennai plant into a global export hub, targeting annual exports worth ₹2 billion. Future models will include strong hybrid and fully electric powertrains.
